‘Update me on your whereabouts at all times, or you’re fired': Employee gets even with new boss who demands to know his whereabouts at all times

Malicious compliance usually ensues after management messes their job up to the extent that employees find a clever way to get back at them or the system while technically carrying out their job description. OP was working as a paid intern for a law firm while they were still in law school, and to say that they enjoyed it would be an understatement. Working weekends and pulling all-nighters was the norm for OP, who claims they were the typical 20-year-old overachiever. Everything went smoothly for about one year until a new partner joined the firm, who quickly made OP his target after learning that OP was well-liked among staff.

This partner became OP's boss and was less than thrilled with the fact that twice a week, OP was 'late' to work because of school classes that would end later than usual. OP had permission from the program committee, but their boss didn't care. OP's boss told him, 'From now on, I want to know where you are at all times. If I catch that you were slacking off or lying, you are fired and I will make sure no one will ever hire you'.
